Marti Myers-Garver is an Enrolled Agent. EA’s are Federally Authorized Tax Practitioners who are licensed by the Department of Treasury to represent Taxpayers through all administrative tax procedures.
Marti successfully passed the grueling Enrolled Agent exam in 1986. At that time, the exam had only a 20% pass rate. There were over 400 tax questions with no calculators or reference material for assistance. Just a No. 2 pencil (remember them?) and a blank piece of paper.
She is an active member of various professional organizations including National Association of Enrolled Agents, National Association of Tax Professionals, American Academy of Tax Practice, a variety of State Societies of Enrolled Agents and National Council for Taxpayer Advocacy. Marti has been involved with the military her entire life and has lectured extensively on military taxation.
Since 1988, she has taught the military Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at bases all over the world. Each year, she fearlessly travels to combat zones to provide instruction to volunteers wishing to assist their fellow troops with tax preparation. Please see Marti Myers-Garver, Fearless Volunteer and Marti continuing her Volunteer endeavors!!
Established in 1884 by legislation signed into law by President Chester Arthur, Enrolled Agents are private tax practitioners who are licensed by the federal government to practice before all administrative levels of the IRS. This includes all representation matters relating to clients’ rights, privileges, and liabilities under laws or regulations administered by the Internal Revenue Service.
Enrolled Agents are required to abide by the provisions of U.S. Treasury Department Circular 230 in their practice and, if found in violation, may be suspended or disbarred. Today, Enrolled Agents advise, represent, and prepare tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, estates, trusts, and any entities with tax-reporting requirements. Each year they work with more than 5 million individual and small business taxpayers.
